F3G - Technik

Introduction

The F3G rules do allow one or more restarts during the tasks - distance, time, speed (speed only if base-A hasnt been crossed already).

A restart is beneficial when, during the working time, conditions have improved and a better performance, e.g. more laps, can be achieved.

In order for the restart to work, the logger must also be "reset" in addition to the announcement of the restart to the official helpers. The logger has already recorded the parameters - motor running time, altitude, energy, etc. - from the previous start. This can be done by disconnecting and reconnecting the motor battery, which can be very time-consuming and stressful.

The Altis V4+ allows the connection of a "reset button" which resets the Altis V4+ logger without disconnecting the battery and allows a new start and engine run. To make this work even faster and safer, the reset button can also be magnetic using a reed switch, which means that the reset can be carried out safely in a matter of seconds.

Limitations

The reset button function of the Altis V4+ is subject to the following limits

  1. For safety reasons, the reset can only be done with the engine (transmitter) off.

  2. The reset can be carried out no earlier than 10 seconds after switching the motor on/off.

  3. The Altis V4+ log will continue to be written after the reset and has recorded the information of all flights and take offs since the battery was connected. The flight information in the Altis Flight Manager - F5J altitude, motor run time, energy - only refers to the last motor run.

Functional Check

You can tell that the Altis has been successfully reset by pressing the reset button because the value for the F5J height is replaced by 3 dashes "---" in the display.

Another indicator of a successful reset is that the motor can be switched on again.

Operations

The handling of the magnetic reset button is actually "idiot-proof". I recommend using it a few times while flying before the competition to familiarize yourself with the sequence - engine off, reset, restart.

Connection Reset-Button

In the picture on the left, the magnetic reset button is clearly visible at the top of the picture.

It is connected to COMA on the Altis V4+ and configured accordingly in the Altis Flight Manager.

When using an ARBox, the reset button is connected to COMA of the ARBox. When selecting the ARBox in the Altis Flight Manager, the COMA of the ARBox is already automatically configured for the reset button.

Build Magnetic Reset Button

The reset button can easily be built by yourself using the following 3 components.

1 piece reed contact 1 closer contact

1 piece MOLEX Picoblade 3-wire connection cable (in the required length)

1 piece magnet - A wide variety of magnets work, such as the ones included with the Zepsus magnetic switches for F3B.

The MOLEX cable and the reed switch are then soldered as shown in the picture on the left, with the middle wire of the Molex cable being unused.

Installation

The reset button should be fixed in the fuselage at the height of the canopy and the position should be marked on the outside so that the position for the reset using a magnet can be found quickly.

On the device, I stuck the reset button into the canopy using tape.
